Molly is passionate about creating greater, more consistent opportunities for access and inclusion in schools and in the workplace. An active member of her community, Molly serves as a Commissioner of her town’s LGBTQIA+ Rainbow Commission to promote inclusion of LGBTQIA+ individuals and groups through affirming policies and programs, resources, advocacy, and community building. Molly and her husband are advocates for their two children, focused on neuro-diversity and gender identity. She serves on the DEI and access groups for her children’s schools and is a speaker for the SAFE Schools program for LGBTQ students of Massachusetts. She believes in creating a world that is equitable for all.
Molly Gillis is a Partner and Chief of Staff at the venture capital firm General Catalyst. She has more than 20 years of experience in VC and tech, focused on operations, communications, and relationship building.
In her current role, Molly provides connectivity and strategic prioritization for the firm’s chairman Ken Chenault and GC’s chairman of health assurance initiatives Ken Frazier, partnering with them on their work with GC portfolio companies, the external organizations with which they are affiliated, and mission-driven initiatives that are in service of making a positive impact on society. She also drives their executive communications, including media relations and speaking engagements.
Molly was previously Chief Communications Officer at GC, leading internal and external communications. Having joined the firm at its formation, she was responsible for establishing its investor relations, marketing, PR, and internal communications functions in partnership with its founders, and played a leadership role in creating opportunities to build GC's brand and ecosystem through strategic partnerships, media relations, creative events, and new initiatives.
Prior to rejoining GC, Molly held leadership positions spanning marketing, communications, operations, business development and strategy at Leerink Partners, a healthcare investment bank, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and BBN Technologies (a GC portfolio company acquired by Raytheon).
Molly is of Mexican-American and Indonesian descent. She is originally from Los Angeles and came east to study creative writing at Emerson College where she earned an M.A. in publishing. She is a writer both as part of her role at General Catalyst, and in her spare time. She is a Level 2 Reiki Practitioner, and holds a special place in her heart for yoga and crystals. Molly earned a B.A. in English from Mount Saint Mary’s University, a predominantly women’s college where she was fortunate to meet her life-long friends.
She and her family reside in the greater-Boston area.
